4G has allowed a record number of TT fans and thousands of Parish Walk followers to share their experience of these major sporting events, according to the latest figures from Manx Telecom.

Statistics from this year’s TT fortnight show that average daily data usage by visitors using its 4G network was significantly up on the 2016 figure.

The total number of users on Manx Telecom’s mobile network during the TT period was also one of the highest on record.

During this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk more than 23,000 photos were uploaded via the free Pic2Go service which allows walkers to have official event photos uploaded automatically to their Facebook account.

The service also recorded more than 675,000 page impressions.

These latest results follow comparisons earlier this year in a Which? and OpenSignal report that demonstrated Manx Telecom’s 4G speed and coverage to be ahead of the UK.

Stephen Kane, head of retail products at Manx Telecom, said: ’These figures are yet another demonstration of how our investment in providing 99per cent 4G population coverage plays a part in the island’s most popular events, both for residents and visitors.

’It’s a great example of how our commitment to providing the Isle of Man with the best technology helps to bring people together to make good things happen.’

Online statistics about the Manx Telecom Parish Walk also showed the event’s international appeal.

The official timing website attracted hits from more than 60 nations and territories around the world, ranging from the island of Aruba to Zimbabwe, and including hits from people following the event in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.
