Celebrating 50 years of visits

An ardent fan of the Isle of Man has marked 50 years of visits with a chauffer-driven lap of the course.

Jan Burrows, who lives at Clifton in Nottingham, first visited the island in 1967 as a 19-year-old and it heralded the start of an enduring love for the Isle of Man.

’My first impressions of the island was a love that has not diminished over the years. I have visited too many times to remember also introducing parents, children and grandchildren who can still remember seeing the basking sharks in the bay at Port Erin,’ she said.

’In 1967 it was the diamond anniversary of the TT races and I saw the likes of Hailwood, Agostini, Read and Ivy to name but a few.

’But this year is special for me. It marks 50 years and many memories and in early September I turn 70.’

Jan said she arranged the chauffeur driven lap as her bike riding days are long gone, but her first visit was different as it was with her husband-to-be on a 350cc Triumph. The couple returned the following year and spent their honeymoon at the TT.

Subsequent visits have often been family holidays outside the busy TT period with her daughter and more recently her grandchildren.
